Astonishingly this was Bryce Courtenay debut novel. Bryce Courtenay was born in South Africa, is an Australian, and has lived in Sydney for the major part of his life. I read that Bryce Courtenay died recently and although his obituary did not say that The Power of One was autobiographical, I must believe that it either described his own life or the life of someone very close to him.
